First Day

Today was my first day, not only on the course, but also at York College so I was a little nervous as I didn't know anyone. The day seemed to rush by though and my tutors seem to have a good idea about graphic design and know what they are talking about which is useful. We were given 2 briefs, the first one is to design a creative calendar for the National Business Calendar Awards Competition 2013 and the second is to write an essay on an area within art and design. Obviously this is a huge area and I haven't yet decided what I'm going to write about but we do have until March next year so I've got plenty of time to think about this. I don't actually mind writing essays, especially if it's something I'm interested in it can be quite enjoyable. I'm also really looking forward to designing a creative calendar and pushing myself to see what I can come up with. Earlier in the year, I was on a placement at The Agen©y in Cheshire where I was lucky enough to work on a calendar for the photographer Ian Tilton using famous shots of The Stone Roses which he'd taken in the past. I really enjoyed the whole process of coming up with creative solutions for a calendar as it doesn't have to just be 12 sheets of paper that hang on the wall and I'm really looking forward to doing it all again.
